Season 2024

Berwick City Soccer Club (BCSC) is a community club that offers a range of soccer programs and teams for both male and female players.
There are more than 40 teams at our club, with players starting from 5 year olds to 35 year olds.

Program Overview

Our club is proud to offer both boys and girls from all backgrounds and abilities the chance to enjoy team sports in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We're delighted that many of our players choose to stay with us, leading to strong growth in our membership.

We're a community club, and we greatly appreciate the help and support of parents and their families. This involves voluntary support on the club’s committee and sub-committees, coaching, helping with game day duties such as setting up grounds or helping as a team manager. This ongoing support is appreciated and an expected element for families interested in joining our community club.

In line with the 2024 season and inspired by the Matildas' remarkable performance, one of our primary focus areas is to promote increased female participation within our community teams. We aim to expand the number of dedicated girls' teams across all age groups and into our senior women's football, thereby creating a pathway for our next generation of superstars.

Our club is part of Football Victoria's Miniroos (Under 8s to Under 12s) and Juniors (Under 13s to Under 18s) Competitions.

Both of our programs offer opportunities for players of all skill levels to participate. We take the time to assess and place players and teams at suitable skill levels. Children have the flexibility to choose how often they want to play, though we schedule two training sessions a week, with a match (home or away) played at the weekend. 

Our primary goal is to ensure that kids are playing at a level that matches their abilities.


Miniroos (Ages 5,6 and 7)

  • Weekly training program held every Saturday Morning
  • Fun environment for kids to start and love the game
  • Minimum requirement is for boots and shin pads.

FV Miniroos Program (more info here)

  • Under 8/9: 7 v 7 (optimum team number 9 max 11 inc goal keeper)
  • Under 10s to 12s: 9 v 9 (optimum team number 12, max of 14 inc goal keeper)
  • Scores are not recorded and are not to be published on social media.
  • Multiple teams per age group based on FV format of graded teams Kangaroo, Wallaby and Joeys.
  • Mixed teams including boys and girls.
  • 2 x training sessions per week generally on Mondays and Wednesdays. Girls only teams will train Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Matches played on Saturdays; both home and away. Girls only teams play on Sundays.
  • Team based football with home and away fixture against other clubs.
  • Coached by Parent Volunteer guided by Club's Technical Directors and other experienced coaches.
  • Parents required to get involved with Team manager role, Refereeing and Game Day duties.

FV Juniors Program (more info here)

  • Games are played with 11 a side on a full pitch except for U12 and U13 (Girls & Boys) who will play 9 a side on a smaller pitch (max 50m x 70m).
  • Under 13s: 9 v 9 (optimum team number 12, max. of 14 inc goal keeper)
  • Under 14s and above: 11 v 11 (optimum team number 14, max. of 16 inc goal keeper)
  • Multiple teams per age group based on FV format of graded teams A, B and C.
  • Boys and Girls teams are separated.
  • 2 x training sessions per week generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Matches played on Sundays; both home and away.
  • Coached by Parent Volunteer guided by Club's Technical Directors and other experienced coaches.
  • Parents required to get involved with Team manager role, Refereeing/Linesperson and Game Day duties.
  • FV appointed referees are provided, however on occasion when they are unavailable, a parent referee must step in for home games. Also linesperson is required for each game.

Tryouts (or Grading Sessions)

Tryouts typically take place in November of each year. Returning players are initially placed in the same teams as the year prior. You would expect movement of players between teams to accommodate new players and for player skill development.

Upon conclusion of the tryouts/grading sessions, players are allocated into teams. Upon finalisation of the team's coaches, team placements are generally confirmed by early January.

2024  Community  Tryouts scheduleBerwick City SC can now confirm the tryout schedule for our 2024 Community Teams. After a successfull Season 2023, we've decided that the only way to go is UP – and that means adding more players, teams, especially girls, into our soccer family.

Preseason and Training:

We kick things off with preseason training, which typically starts in late February to early March each year. This is the perfect time to get back into the groove, work on your skills, and bond with your teammates. Friendlies or gala days might also be organised to provide kids some good practice before the season begins.

Training sessions are conducted twice a week, usually focusing on player development and match preparations. Our sessions are prepared based on Football Australia's curriculum and emphasize on the core player development skills such as Ball Mastering, First Touch, Striking the ball, Running with the Ball, and 1v1s.

Sessions usually include:
  • Warm-ups
  • Skills development
  • Small Sided Games
  • Normal game at the end

Official Competition Season:

The heart of the FV football season begins in April and continues through to September. Matches are played both at home and away.
For Juniors, there would initially be some grading matches conducted by FV followed by the final allocation of the team's league.

Uniform Fittings:

In March, we organise uniform fittings. To ensure you're ready to hit the field in style, please be prepared to complete your fee payment prior. Our playing kits are essential for the season!

Team Photos:

During the season, we'll also organise team photos. It's a fantastic way to capture the memories you create with your teammates and showcase the unity of your squad. Be sure to bring your best smiles and team spirit on the day!

End of Season Presentation:

As the season draws to a close, we like to celebrate the achievements and hard work of our players. Our End of Season Presentation is a highlight of the year, typically held in October. It's a chance to reflect on the season, acknowledge outstanding performances, and enjoy some well-deserved recognition.


For the Community Season 2024, the total registration fee is $800, which includes GST per player. This covers various aspects, including all Football Victoria & Football Australia Registration and team Fees, approximately 26 weeks of coaching (2 sessions per week, each lasting 1 hours), preseason matches, guidance and support from the club's Technical Director, participation in match days, and a family membership (for 2 adults and 2 children) that grants access to all Senior Men's & Women's Home games, along with other benefits.

There are discounts available for siblings, and we also accept Get Active vouchers.

In addition to these, each registered player will also receive the following:
  • 2 x Playing Kits by Puma, consisting of a shirt, shorts, and socks.
  • An Equipment Bag by Puma.

To secure your spot for the new season, we require an initial deposit of $200 prior to the tryouts (grading) sessions or on the day. The remaining balance of the fees will be payable before the commencement of the season.

What is not included?

Personal items such as boots and shin guards are not covered by the fees and should be provided by all members individually.

  • Be a good role model. Children watch and learn from you, so make sure you set a good example.
  • Avoid a ‘win at all costs’ attitude. Although you may think winning is important, the focus for junior sport should be on fun.
  • Be aware that your abusive behaviour may be against the law. Ask yourself, ‘Would my mother be upset or offended by what I am saying or doing?’ If the answer is yes then it’s best to sit down and be quiet.
  • Try not to be critical of coaches, referees or umpires. Many are volunteers who give their time to make sport possible for all our children, and some are just learning. If you have some constructive advice for them, leave it until after the game (usually 24 hours) or have a chat with the head coach or referee.
